How Massage Can Help Improve Sleep

You know the results of even one night of poor sleep. If you face problems sleeping regularly, you may wonder if there is ever going to be a time when you get a deep, restorative sleep ever again. The good news is that massage can make that happen.

Reduces Anxiety

Our lives are full of stress. Falling asleep can be difficult if your mind is full of anxiety and worry. Massage releases chemicals within your body that help reduce the level of stress you feel. These chemicals allow you to relax, making sleep much easier to achieve.

Reduces Pain

How many times have you found it difficult to either fall asleep or stay asleep because of pain? What's even worse is that a lack of good sleep makes your body release even more of the pain-producing chemicals. Massage allows muscles to relax. The serotonin produced when this happens helps reduce the pain you feel. You can now be comfortable as you try to sleep.

Natural Sleep

To sleep deeply, your body produces a natural sleep hormone called melatonin. Melatonin needs to be triggered by serotonin. Because a massage causes serotonin to be released, it sets up the situation for your natural sleep hormone to kick in and tell your body to sleep.

Chain Reaction

Nothing in our bodies works independently of the rest. Regular massage produces a chain reaction that reduces the things that keep you from getting a good night's sleep and produces what you need to do so. When you have that restorative sleep, your body can produce the serotonin that keeps the chain reaction going. Getting a regular massage can be thought of as a thousand-mile tune-up. It allows your body to continue working efficiently by unclogging your system of the things that slow it down such as pain and anxiety. A well=tuned system will keep you happy and healthy - and well-rested.
